The CL500 can be used to measure total residual chlorine in all forms, including dissolved free chlorine, chloramines, hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion. To use, a sample of the water is inserted into a testing bottle along with a reagent tablet; the CL500 then measures the overall content of chlorine via its built in electrode. Measurements taken using this chlorine meter are carried out with a high degree of accuracy ( 0.02ppm@ 1.00ppm) and with resolution of 0.01ppm. The method of measurement is approved by the U.S Environment Protection Agency ( EPA) as an acceptable method for wastewater compliance monitoring of total chlorine levels.
